Taivero's KDEC Sports Day Narrative Learning Story-22.03.15

Learner: Taivero A    Learning Coach: Margaret Patrick   Date: 22nd March, 2015
Learning Area: Health & Physical Education- Maintaining Regular Physical Activity
Learning Observed
Taivero participated in the KDEC sports day.He attempted all the events. These included: 100m sprint, long jump, and the vortex throw. Due to the rain the rest of the events were cancelled so he missed out on the discus, shot and  high jump. He wasn’t placed in any events this year so that was a new experience for him. In the photo you can see him starting the 100m sprint.  We had practiced how to start the sprints at school during PE time. He powered out of the start and was using his arms and his eyes were focused ahead. Taivero is tall but does not hold himself up erect when he is walking around and tends to drag his feet. He needs reminding to stand tall and use his core muscles to support his back.He has worked with an Occupational therapist in the past focussing on developing his eye-hand coordination and body posture. Taivero’s main opportunities for exercise happen at school. He doesn’t always have regular meals so this impacts on his energy levels.
