Taivero's Creating a LH1 Treaty-11.03.15

Learner: Taivero Aleluia       Learning Coach:Margaret Patrick            Date:11.3.15
Learning Area:Social Sciences-Place and Environment
Learning Observed
The learners and LCs in LH 1 thought that if we had a treaty it would help everyone manage the way we interacted with others in our beautiful new learning habitat. One of the key values at OrmPS is showing respect. The learners explored the meaning of  “respect” in three  different ways.
  • Respect for ourselves
  • Respect for others
  • Respect for our environment.
Everyone agreed on the final selection of criteria and these were printed out and displayed on the wall of LH1.
Taivero is signing LH1’s treaty. He knows that he is making a promise to the other learners that he will try to make sure he is worthy of being a member of LH1 and that he can can show respect to others and manage himself in a way that makes him feel proud. This includes what happens at iBreak times. Over the last few weeks Taivero has made a few bad choices and his behaviour has upset others, he has ignored adults and damaged our equipment. He can tell you what he should do but at the time he demonstrates that he can’t make the right choice. He often blames others and says ”XXXXX told me to do it”. He is able to tell you that he is responsible for his behaviour and that he is one who controls what he does. He has had to use his time to complete jobs as consequences for things he has done wrong. This treaty will be a reminder of his commitment to acting responsibly and making sure he doesn’t let himself down.

Key Competencies/Vision Principles
Taivero is making a commitment to this treaty by signing it. He is wanting to increase his  skills in  Managing Self, Relating to Others and building connections with his other learners and LC’s.
Next Learning Steps
  • Stop blaming others when he makes wrong choices.
  • Improve managing his time so he arrives at activities and learning blocks on time.
  • Stop and think-Don’t follow the leader when you know what is happening is not right.
  • Accept responsibility for his behaviour and know how it impacts on others.
  • Control the volume of his voice and not shout across any LH.
  • Meet regularly with Dianne Hill on Tuesdays.
